Today, there are a lot of different geosource units on the market. This is a good thing, since consumers can select the best unit for their individual lifestyle. On the other hand, if you don’t know a lot about geothermal heat pump operation, deciding which geosource system you actually need can be a challenge. Which is why we do geothermal heat pump reviews like this one on the Bosch Greensource i Series BP Model.
What is there to like about this unit?
It’s a geothermal heat pump, so you’re going to save money compared to a traditional air conditioner. Plus, the i Series BP should qualify you for a 30% Federal Tax Credit.
Up to 28.8 EER GWHP and 4.6 COP GWHP are solid energy efficiency ratings, and a 10-Year Parts Limited Warranty alongside a 10-Year Labor Limited Warranty offers substantial long term protection.
The unit is ASHRAE 90.1 compliant with a 2” MERV-8 filter, and is insulated for quiet operation.
The Greensource i Series BP is reasonably priced for a geothermal heat pump.
And the downside?
This is not the most energy efficient geothermal heat pump on the market. Yes, it’s going to be better than the previous generation air conditioner you’re using right now, but it’s not the best of the best. It’s quite good, but many homeowners may want more than the i Series BP can offer.
The i Series BP features a single-stage compressor. That’s typical in the HVAC industry, but dual-stage compressors offer superior long term energy efficiency and operate longer with fewer breakdowns.
If you are looking for a bargain-priced geothermal heat pump, then the Bosch Greensource i Series BP is what you want. If you have the money to buy a better unit, then you probably should.
