McQuay International WRA-1036 Water-to-Water Geothermal Heat Pump Review

McQuayHeatPump
The McQuay International WRA-1036 water-to-water geothermal heat pump is designed to provide high quality air comfort, reduce residential utility expenses, minimize harmful emissions, and run quietly all year round. The system is optimized for ground source or lake loop applications, but can also operate in a more conventional horizontal or vertical ground loop installation.

Pros

  • The big pro of any geothermal heating system are the annual energy savings. Installed in a ground source or lake loop, the McQuay WRA-1036 can deliver these cost reductions year after year.

  • The WRA-1036 is a compact unit, but can still generate up to 36k BTUs whenever you need them.

  • The unit comes standard with a 10-Year Compressor Warranty and a 5-Year All Parts Warranty.

  • For its performance capabilities, the WRA-1036 is a very reasonably priced geothermal heating system.

Cons

  • This is a water-to-water geothermal heat pump, so it works best using an open loop installation into an existing ground water source or body of water. It can be installed in a traditional closed ground loop application, but operating efficiency will not be as high.

Bottom Line

The quality and price of the WRA-1036 water-to-water geothermal heat pump is fairly typical of McQuay International’s high manufacturing standard. This is a good system, but, again, works best on a ground source or lake loop installation. Still, it will perform admirably in a closed loop.
